Yan Zhou Announces 2026 YCDSB Trustee Campaign in Markham

I am a candidate for York Catholic District School Board Trustee in Markham Area 2, representing Wards 4, 5, 7 and 8. I am running to provide practical, accountable representation centred on students, classrooms and clear communication.

Quick answer

What are Yan Zhou’s three priorities?

Student Supports, Mental Health & Classroom Resources; Responsible Budget Decisions; and Parent Engagement & Catholic School Councils.

Why I am running

I am a father of three, a Catholic school parent, an education advocate and a community volunteer. Families should be able to understand how the system works, where a decision belongs and what happens after they raise a concern.

Experience I bring

  • Catholic School Council service and direct experience with parent engagement.
  • SEAC experience and knowledge of IEP, IPRC, gifted and twice-exceptional family concerns.
  • Treasurer of the Association for Bright Children of Ontario.
  • Founding president of ACE Ontario and long-term community, faith and service leadership.

Three focused priorities

  • Student Supports, Mental Health & Classroom Resources — Advocate for practical supports, classroom resources, and student well-being.
  • Responsible Budget Decisions — Support transparent, responsible budget decisions that protect classrooms and student learning.
  • Parent Engagement & Catholic School Councils — Strengthen communication and meaningful parent involvement through Catholic School Councils.

How I would serve

I will listen before deciding, distinguish an individual case from a system issue and explain the limits of the role. I will not direct staff, disclose confidential information or promise an outcome that depends on professional judgment, a Supervisor or a board vote.

The 2026 context

Elections Markham’s certified candidate list includes Yan Zhou for the English Catholic trustee office covering Wards 4, 5, 7 and 8. Voting runs from October 16 to 26. YCDSB is also under provincial supervision, so honest representation requires clear communication about current authority.

Plan your vote: use the Vote 2026 action centre, confirm the voting dates and options, or open the Media Kit.
