How to Check Your YCDSB School Bus Route for 2026–27

YCDSB transportation 2026–27

YCDSB and YRDSB transportation is coordinated through Student Transportation Services of York Region. Families can use SchoolBusCity and the BusPlanner Parent Portal to check eligibility, route, stop and service information.

Timing matters: Student Transportation Services works on September routes throughout the summer. Its published guidance says families should look for the most current arrangements after the third week of August and continue checking because times can change.

Transportation eligibility and routes are determined by the official system. Do not rely on an old route, another family’s stop or an unofficial distance calculation.

Start with the official tools

  1. Open SchoolBusCity.
  2. Use the Find Your Bus Stop or current route-information option to check transportation eligibility for the home address and school.
  3. For student-specific information and notifications, use the BusPlanner Parent Portal and select the correct school year.
  4. Record the route number, morning stop and time, afternoon stop and time, and any listed operator information.
  5. Check the portal again shortly before the first day and during the opening weeks.

Protect student information

The Parent Portal restricts student-specific information to authorized parents and guardians connected to the official school record. Do not post a child’s route, stop, school schedule or identifying information in a public group.

What to verify on the route screen

  • The selected school year is 2026–27.
  • The school and program are correct, including French Immersion, PACE or another regional program where applicable.
  • The home address matches the current school record.
  • Morning and afternoon arrangements both appear and make sense.
  • The child knows the route number and the correct stop.
  • An adult understands the first-day pickup and drop-off plan.

How transportation eligibility is determined

Eligibility depends on the student’s grade, residence, designated school, program, transportation boundary and applicable YCDSB policy. A child who qualified last year may not qualify after moving, changing schools or entering a grade with a different threshold.

Use SchoolBusCity’s official eligibility result rather than measuring a straight line on a consumer map. Families dealing with school boundaries or a transfer should also review the YCDSB boundaries and transfer guide. Transportation for French Immersion follows program-specific boundaries and centralized-stop arrangements; see the YCDSB French Immersion guide.

If no bus information appears

  • Confirm that the student is fully registered and the school has the correct home address.
  • Make sure the 2026–27 database is selected.
  • Check whether the address is eligible through Find Your Bus Stop.
  • If the student recently registered, moved or changed programs, allow time for information to reach transportation planning.
  • Contact the school first when the school record may be incorrect.
  • For route, stop, time, eligibility or service questions, use the Student Transportation Services contact page.

Prepare the child before the first ride

  • Walk to the stop together and identify a safe waiting place.
  • Practise the route number, school name and the adult pickup plan.
  • Explain that the child must follow the driver’s instructions and remain seated appropriately.
  • Decide what the child should do if the bus does not arrive, the stop looks unfamiliar or the expected adult is absent.
  • For younger children, confirm who must meet the child and what the school or transportation service requires.

YCDSB transportation guidance has advised arriving about 10 minutes early during the first two weeks and about five minutes early once routes settle. Follow the current 2026–27 message from the school or Student Transportation Services if it differs.

Late buses and cancellations

Check SchoolBusCity’s Late Bus or Alerts information before leaving for the stop when service appears delayed. Families should maintain an alternate transportation and care plan because delays and cancellations can occur.

For weather cancellations, check the official notice after 6:00 a.m. Student Transportation Services states that if buses are cancelled in the morning, they will not operate in the afternoon. A parent who transports the child to school must therefore arrange the trip home as well. Schools may remain open even when transportation is cancelled, unless officials announce otherwise.

Questions parents ask

When will YCDSB 2026–27 bus routes be available?

Student Transportation Services says the most up-to-date September arrangements are generally available after the third week of August. Check again before the first day because routes and times can be adjusted.

Do eligible students need a separate bus registration?

Published STSYR guidance says a student who is registered at school and eligible for transportation generally does not need a separate registration to ride. Parent Portal access and program-specific instructions may still require family action.

Why did transportation eligibility change this year?

Possible reasons include a grade transition, address change, school or program change, boundary rules or updated official routing information. Check the result in SchoolBusCity and ask the school or STSYR about the specific record.

Should I share the route in a parent Facebook group?

No. Avoid publicly posting student-specific routes, stops and times. Direct families to the official portal so they can view information connected to their own child.

Continue preparing for school

Use the YCDSB Back-to-School Checklist 2026–27 for supplies, routines, medical information and grade-specific preparation. The official YCDSB links directory provides frequently used board and school services.
