Am I Eligible to Vote for a Catholic School Trustee in Markham?

2026 Markham School Board Election

Start with the basic voter rules

Use this plain-language checklist, then confirm your own record with Elections Markham. This page cannot determine an individual voter’s eligibility.

Basic Markham voter qualifications

  • You are at least 18 years old, or will be by the final voting day.
  • You are a Canadian citizen.
  • You qualify as a Markham resident, residential property owner or tenant, or the spouse of one.
  • You are registered on Markham’s municipal voters’ list.

The school-board ballot is a separate check

Being eligible for Markham’s municipal election does not by itself confirm which school-board trustee contest will appear on your ballot. Your voter record must identify the appropriate school-board support. Confirm this directly through the official voter-information tool. If your record needs correction, follow the instructions from Elections Markham or the official school-support process.

Common situations

Do I need to have a child in a Catholic school?

No. Having a child enrolled in a school is not listed as a general Markham voter qualification. The important questions are whether you are an eligible elector and which school-board support is recorded for your ballot. Confirm your own status officially.

Does owning a business property qualify me for a school-board trustee ballot?

Markham states that qualifying non-residential property owners or tenants may vote for council offices, but business property alone does not qualify someone to vote for a local school-board trustee. Residential eligibility rules apply.

Which YCDSB trustee area applies to me?

Markham has two English Catholic trustee contests, covering different groups of municipal wards. Use the official voter-information tool rather than relying on an address description on a campaign website.

What if I moved or did not receive a voter information letter?

Check and update your information through Elections Markham. Do not wait until the final day if your address or school-board support may need correction.
